Many burial graves as well as\nartifacts of domestic debris were recovered, including flint,\npottery, bone, numerous fragments of hardwood charcoal,\nand some plant species thought to be domesticated. This\nresearch sought to identify all the plant remains excavated\nfrom the Newtown Fire Station archaeological site, uncovered\nduring the construction of a porch addition to the firehouse.\nThese remains were identified using an electron microscope\nand organized by taxa, weighed, and photographed. After the\nremains were examined for identification purposes, they were\nstudied for environmental context. Among the remains found\nwere several fruit, nut, crop, and hardwood species. These\npreserved and charred remains serve as botanical evidence\nfor the reconstruction of survival strategies of the past\nNewtown inhabitants, as well as diets and other domestic\nplant uses.
