This capstone explores how integrating living art and edible plants into urban spaces improves people’s mental health and well-being. Through the design of a community garden and a living art installation, this project blends horticulture, public health, and art to promote food access, reduce stress, and foster community a vibrant, restorative environment. The overarching goal is advancing urban biodiversity initiatives, focused on flora indigenous to the Cincinnati area. The project delves into current research gaps and challenges associated with native seed collection and cultivation methodologies. Additionally, this research explores the potential ecological benefits and challenges associated with integrating native plant species into urban landscapes. This project researches 13 plant species in this context. The target outcomes of this research include a refined understanding of native plant adaptation to urban settings, improved conservation strategies, and actionable guidelines for urban planners and horticulturalists. This research contributes knowledge to the ongoing efforts of promoting biodiversity within urban landscapes, fostering a more sustainable coexistence between human developments and Ohio's native flora. The final result of this project is a field guide with sections on plant identification, seed harvesting, seed storage, cultivation needs, and common ecoregions for each plant."],"license_tesim":["http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/mark/1.0/"],"date_created_tesim":["2024-04-11"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/3b591993k?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-depositing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["3b591993k"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Brianna Brown Horticulture Capstone Project Spring 2024"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["sf268663m"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["3b591993k"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"sort_title_ssi":"OPTIMIZING URBAN BIODIVERSITY NATIVE SEED COLLECTION AND CULTIVATION PRACTICES FOR OHIOS NATIVE PLANTS","human_readable_type_tesim":["Document"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["brown4b2@mail.uc.edu"],"nesting_collection__ancestors_ssim":["sf268663m"],"nesting_collection__parent_ids_ssim":["sf268663m"],"nesting_collection__pathnames_ssim":["sf268663m/5999n4907"],"nesting_collection__deepest_nested_depth_isi":2,"_version_":1796083919238463488,"timestamp":"2024-04-11T23:45:03.888Z","score":0.00049999997}],"facets":[{"name":"human_readable_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Document","hits":2,"label":"Document"}],"label":"Human Readable Type Sim"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Brown, Brianna","hits":1,"label":"Brown, Brianna"},{"value":"Tanner, Avery","hits":1,"label":"Tanner, Avery"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Biodiversity","hits":2,"label":"Biodiversity"},{"value":"Biology","hits":1,"label":"Biology"},{"value":"Community Engagement ","hits":1,"label":"Community Engagement "},{"value":"Community Garden","hits":1,"label":"Community Garden"},{"value":"Food Deserts ","hits":1,"label":"Food Deserts "},{"value":"Food Insecurity ","hits":1,"label":"Food Insecurity "}],"label":"Subject Sim"},{"name":"college_sim","items":[{"value":"Design, Architecture, Art and Planning","hits":2,"label":"Design, Architecture, Art and Planning"}],"label":"College Sim"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[{"value":"Horticulture","hits":1,"label":"Horticulture"},{"value":"School of Planning","hits":1,"label":"School of Planning"}],"label":"Department Sim"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":1,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language Sim"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"University of Cincinnati","hits":2,"label":"University of Cincinnati"}],"label":"Publisher Sim"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[{"value":"2024-04-11","hits":1,"label":"2024-04-11"},{"value":"2025-04-09","hits":1,"label":"2025-04-09"}],"label":"Date Created Sim"},{"name":"member_of_collection_ids_ssim","items":[{"value":"sf268663m","hits":1,"label":"sf268663m"}],"label":"Member Of Collection Ids Ssim"},{"name":"generic_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Work","hits":2,"label":"Work"}],"label":"Generic Type Sim"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":2,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
