The interaction between two cracks depends on a number of factors such as the domain geometry, the relative crack sizes and the separation between the two crack tips. In this paper, we study the interaction between two dynamically propagating cracks. We use the phase field method to track the crack paths, since this method can handle complex crack behavior such as crack branching, without any ad hoc criteria for crack evolution. The results from our dynamic simulations indicate that, unlike crack inter- action under quasi-static or fatigue loading, the presence of another crack does not accelerate crack propagation when dynamic loads are applied. However, some similarities in the crack topologies are observed for both quasi-static and dynamic loading."],"license_tesim":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-ff055336041c3f7d310ad69109eda4a887b16ec501f35afc0a547c4adb97ee72.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-depositing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"sort_title_ssi":"COMPUTATIONAL STUDY OF THE DYNAMIC PROPAGATION OF TWO OFFSET CRACKS USING THE PHASE FIELD METHOD","human_readable_type_tesim":["Article"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["vemagaks@ucmail.uc.edu","koshofae@ucmail.uc.edu","mehrapt@mail.uc.edu","serantkn@mail.uc.edu","kenjakt@mail.uc.edu"],"nesting_collection__pathnames_ssim":["bc389375r"],"nesting_collection__deepest_nested_depth_isi":1,"_version_":1697083556899061760,"timestamp":"2021-04-15T05:36:41.010Z","score":0.00049999997},{"system_create_dtsi":"2017-10-27T00:54:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2017-11-28T17:13:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Article"],"id":"bc3893736","accessControl_ssim":["310a4a99-29b2-4665-b890-ad2a22df2081"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["bc389374g"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["bc389374g"],"depositor_ssim":["vemagaks@ucmail.uc.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["vemagaks@ucmail.uc.edu"],"title_tesim":["On the inference of viscoelastic time constants from stress relaxation experiments"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2017-10-11T00:00:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2017-10-11T00:00:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"college_tesim":["Engineering and Applied Science"],"department_tesim":["Mechanical Eng"],"creator_tesim":["Kumar Vemaganti","Sandeep Madireddy"],"description_tesim":["Several constitutive theories have been proposed in the literature to model the viscoelastic response of soft tissue, including widely used rheological constitutive models. These models are characterized by certain parameters (“time constants”) that define the time scales over which the tissue relaxes. These parameters are primarily obtained from stress relaxation experiments using curve-fitting techniques. However, the question of how best to estimate these time constants remains open.\n\nAs a step towards answering this question, we develop an optimal experimental design approach based on ideas from information geometry, namely Fisher information and Kullback-Leibler divergence. Tissue is modeled as a standard linear solid and described using a one- or two-term Prony series. Treating the time constants as unknowns, we develop expressions for the Fisher information and Kullback-Leibler divergence that allow us to maximize information gain from experimental data. Based on the results of this study, we propose that the largest time constant estimated from a stress relaxation experiment for a linear viscoelastic material should be at most one-fifth of the total time of the experiment in order to maximize information gain."],"license_tesim":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/bc389374g?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-depositing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["bc389374g"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["bc389374g"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"sort_title_ssi":"ON THE INFERENCE OF VISCOELASTIC TIME CONSTANTS FROM STRESS RELAXATION EXPERIMENTS","human_readable_type_tesim":["Article"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["kenjakt@mail.uc.edu","serantkn@mail.uc.edu","vemagaks@ucmail.uc.edu","koshofae@ucmail.uc.edu","mehrapt@mail.uc.edu"],"nesting_collection__pathnames_ssim":["bc3893736"],"nesting_collection__deepest_nested_depth_isi":1,"_version_":1697093930084990976,"timestamp":"2021-04-15T08:21:33.650Z","score":0.00049999997}],"facets":[{"name":"human_readable_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Article","hits":2,"label":"Article"},{"value":"Collection","hits":1,"label":"Collection"},{"value":"Document","hits":1,"label":"Document"}],"label":"Human Readable Type Sim"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Kumar Vemaganti","hits":4,"label":"Kumar Vemaganti"},{"value":"Chia-Ying Lin","hits":2,"label":"Chia-Ying Lin"},{"value":"Long, Teng","hits":2,"label":"Long, Teng"},{"value":"Sai Deogekar","hits":1,"label":"Sai Deogekar"},{"value":"Sandeep Madireddy","hits":1,"label":"Sandeep Madireddy"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Biomechanics","hits":1,"label":"Biomechanics"}],"label":"Subject Sim"},{"name":"college_sim","items":[{"value":"Engineering and Applied Science","hits":3,"label":"Engineering and Applied Science"}],"label":"College Sim"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[{"value":"Mechanical Eng","hits":2,"label":"Mechanical Eng"},{"value":"- Mechanical Eng","hits":1,"label":"- Mechanical Eng"}],"label":"Department Sim"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":1,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language Sim"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":" University of Cincinnati","hits":1,"label":" University of Cincinnati"},{"value":"Elsevier","hits":1,"label":"Elsevier"}],"label":"Publisher Sim"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[{"value":"2020-11","hits":1,"label":"2020-11"}],"label":"Date Created Sim"},{"name":"member_of_collection_ids_ssim","items":[],"label":"Member Of Collection Ids Ssim"},{"name":"generic_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Work","hits":3,"label":"Work"},{"value":"Collection","hits":1,"label":"Collection"}],"label":"Generic Type Sim"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
