This analytical model, applied to a 20-bay, orthogonal, tetrahedral, cantilevered truss structure, is used to determine the transient response when subjected to a unit impulse. It is demonstrated that for beam-like structures having a fixed bending stiffness and beam mass an increase in diagonal stiffness, on account of the stiffness of the vertical girder, leads to a rise in the transverse shear rigidity. This results in higher natural frequencies and a reduction in peak displacement. In addition, in an asymmetrical truss configuration, coupling between the extensional and shear modes raises the maximum peak displacement compared to that obtained for a symmetric truss. The model is modified to investigate the introduction of passive damping in the form of several dynamic vibration absorbers. For a fixed absorber mass budget, a simple yet efficient absorber parameter optimization procedure, based on the classical steady state criteria of a 2-DOF system, is developed to design several absorbers each tuned to a different modal frequency. It is found that inclusion of transverse shear rigidity, as a design parameter in damping augmentation studies, reduces settling time for predetermined maximum peak displacements."],"license_tesim":["http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"date_created_tesim":["1994-08"],"source_tesim":["Journal of Sound and Vibration"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/bc386t286?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-depositing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["bc386t286"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["bc386t286"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"sort_title_ssi":"PASSIVE DAMPING AUGMENTATION FOR VIBRATION SUPPRESSION IN FLEXIBLE LATTICED BEAMLIKE SPACE STRUCTURES","human_readable_type_tesim":["Article"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["konecnmc@ucmail.uc.edu"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["cohenky@ucmail.uc.edu"],"nesting_collection__pathnames_ssim":["bc386t27x"],"nesting_collection__deepest_nested_depth_isi":1,"_version_":1697095641371508736,"timestamp":"2021-04-15T08:48:45.661Z","score":0.00049999997}],"facets":[{"name":"human_readable_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Article","hits":1,"label":"Article"}],"label":"Human Readable Type Sim"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Cohen, Kelly","hits":1,"label":"Cohen, Kelly"},{"value":"Weller, T.","hits":1,"label":"Weller, T."}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[],"label":"Subject Sim"},{"name":"college_sim","items":[{"value":"Engineering and Applied Science","hits":1,"label":"Engineering and Applied Science"}],"label":"College Sim"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[{"value":"Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics","hits":1,"label":"Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics"}],"label":"Department Sim"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":1,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language Sim"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[],"label":"Publisher Sim"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[{"value":"1994-08","hits":1,"label":"1994-08"}],"label":"Date Created Sim"},{"name":"member_of_collection_ids_ssim","items":[],"label":"Member Of Collection Ids Ssim"},{"name":"generic_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Work","hits":1,"label":"Work"}],"label":"Generic Type Sim"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":1,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
