I was commissioned by Andy Marko of Semantics Gallery in Cincinnati to create a live show as the concluding event for his annual Autumedia Festival. The space at Semantics was filled with other work in the show, so he approached Third Party, another artist run space down the street, to host the performance. I sent a general call out to friends at CCM looking for improvising musicians with the idea of forming a fairly large ensemble. I had a a number of responses and the musical group was ultimately made up of Regan Brown (Bass Clarinet), Dave McDonnell (Sax and Electronics), Carrie Magin (Percussion), Steve Weimer (Keyboard), and Zach Larabee (Drums). I also invited Loraine Wible, former student and previous collaborator, with Discerning Crane, to contribute a second stream of images. When we got to the space I decided to throw Loraine's images obliquely across the long wall with mine in the center.
This is a metacognition teaching tool designed as a method of teaching students the connections between emotions, thoughts and behavior through a cognitions diary. This presentation will demonstrate how students can use their cell phones to monitor, examine, and draw conclusions about how their emotions affect their capacity to learn. As a result of the process, students will develop ways to transform cognitions in such a way as to enhance learning. This presentation will include: 1. A guideline for developing a baseline scale of emotions; 2. A table for using a cell phone to log emotions and thoughts; 3. A rubric for reflections and analysis of the journal.
An additional goal of this tool is to provide an experiential basis for students to build understanding for the connection between affect and cognitions.
Scholarly research presented at the University of Cincinnati's 2017 PRaISE conference on Capnocytophaga infections during pregnancy. This poster includes background information, a case study, clinical presentation, lab workup, and treatment.
This poster was created for the PRaISE conference and describes in detail a case of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) progressing into Blast crisis in the emergency room. The patient diagnosis is described by the methods used, CBC and differential data, pathology of CML transitioning into blast crisis and a granulocytic sarcoma, emergency and standard treatment, and statistics on this type of cancer.
