PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT: Investigate possible structural differences in porcine and human clots using scanning electron microscopy. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE: Each image is labelled with the species origin and magnification. METHODOLOGY/PROTOCOL DATA COLLECTION: Please see the manuscript for more information on sample preparation. SEM images were acquired using a Hitachi SU8010 Ultra-High-Resolution Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope. DATA ANALYSIS: Please see the manuscript for more information on analysis of SEM images. Briefly, MATLAB was used to segment images (3500x magnification, cropped to 8 micron squares) and label the images with randomly placed dots. Blinded observers measured fiber diameters nearest the randomly placed dots. This data was analyzed to establish whether porcine and human fibrin fibers differed in size.
